• Patrick Henry Community College for making changes in its fall class schedules so students can make less trips to campus, and save gas, if they choose. Since PHCC has no students living on campus, it recognizes that commuting costs likely are an issue for many — if not all — of its nearly 1,300 students.
• Arnold Terry of Collinsville, who recently was honored as a bluegrass pioneer by the International Bluegrass Museum in Owensboro, Ky. Terry, now 75, got his first guitar when he was 12 and formed his first band in the eighth grade. He played professionally, including touring with the band of legendary musician Bill Monroe.
• The council of the Virginia Chapter of the American College of Physicians for holding its summer retreat here last week. It was the first time the council met in this part of the state, and members also toured the Virgnia Museum of Natural History and Martinsville Speedway. |
