Safety worries parent
Thursday, December 27, 2012
I am writing as a concerned parent in the Henry County area. In light of what has happen at the Sandy Hook Elementary School, I am very concerned about the safety of our children.
At Bassett High School and Fieldale-Collinsville Middle School, you can enter the front door but can not gain access to the entire school. At Bassett High School, you are greeted by a person behind a glass window, which I hope is bulletproof. No one can go through the second set of doors. At F-C Middle School, you can only go to the office, and the second set of doors also is locked.
Unfortunately, at Stanleytown Elementary and other schools, there are signs telling parents to go to the office and sign in. So tell me, will a sign stop a gunman?
I truly believe our schools need to be remodeled so no one can get in our schools. I have a child who attends Bassett High School and a child who will attend elementary school in two years. So as a parent, I want to know my children will be safe when I send them to school. I am willing to ride on a bumpy road in order to save money to have our schools safe.
