Anyone who says there is nothing to do around here needs to look around.
This weekend alone, there were the Harvest Moon 10k run and street dance, the Patrick County Partnership for the Arts 5k run, night fishing at Beaver Creek Reservoir and Dan River Basin Association’s First Saturday Outing.
For those interested in art and culture, the first Martinsville Culture Crawl featured a look at the diverse arts offerings in the uptown area, from community theater and music to pets up for adoption. TheatreWorks Community Players opened its latest play, Live at the Rives opened its fall concert series, and a Community Music Jam was held in Woolwine.
Hungry? Area farmers markets offered fresh fruits, vegetables and more, and there were free community meals on Saturday.
If you are making plans for next weekend, keep in mind that the Bassett Fall Festival, the Irisburg Ruritan Club’s Brunswick stew and auction sale, the Ridgeway United Methodist Church’s Lord’s Acre Sale and FAHI’s Evening of Elegance will be Saturday, just to name a few things. Also, the Colonial District Fall Rose Show will be Friday through Sunday, and the Patrick County Fair starts Thursday.
Those things and others are in addition to attractions, classes and programs at Piedmont Arts, the Virginia Museum of Natural History, Spencer-Penn Centre, Studio 107, the Artisan Center, Reynolds Homestead and others.
Whether you want to be inside or out, be active or be a spectator, learn something or contribute something, there are activities that should fit the bill. That is due to the efforts of many groups who spend countless hours devising interesting programs and events. Sometimes these events are fundraisers that help support charitable efforts, scholarships and other worthy causes. All of them contribute to the quality of life here.
We hope area residents will check out these activities and discover all that this area has to offer. There is plenty to keep everyone busy, entertained and involved.
