Portion of line has collapsed, council is told

A roughly 200-foot portion of a major sewer line has collapsed and should be replaced soon at an estimated cost of about $3 million, Martinsville City Council learned Thursday.
That portion of the line is between Walker Road and the Smith River. The entire 6.2-mile line, which basically runs along the river from near Fieldale to the city’s wastewater treatment plant near Forest Park Country Club, needs about $25 million in repairs and upgrades, city officials and consultants told the council during a work session.
