The Phoenix Community Development Corp. announced Thursday that it will stop operating today due to financial constraints.

Phoenix board Chairman Nancy Spilman said Phoenix “needed to be sustainable and it’s hard to be.” Sustainable means its projects would have generated enough revenue to support the organization, she confirmed.

Corey Thomas case unsolved after four years

It’s a troubling time of year for Carla Thomas.

“I have no peace, no joy. I have no rest,” she said. “This time of year is just like it’s dead for me. It starts all over for me.”

Thomas’ son, Corey, went missing on Halloween 2010. His remains were found in a wooded area off Woodland Road in Bassett in March 2011.

The death of the 19-year-old Bassett man was ruled a homicide and is still unsolved.
