Mustangs game and fireworks postponed

Tonight’s Martinsville Mustangs game with fireworks has been rained out.

The fireworks will be moved to Saturday’s Great Community Giveback Game. All tickets sold for tonight’s game will be good for Saturday’s game or any 2015 regular season game.

The first 1,000 fans through the gates at Saturday’s game will receive a free hot dog, chips and drink. The first 500 attendees will receive team posters and Sheetz coupons.

Cease-fire falls apart

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip — A Gaza cease-fire quickly unraveled on Friday as violence erupted in and around a southern town in the war-ravaged strip, with at least 40 Palestinians killed in Israeli shelling while the military said two soldiers were killed and an infantry officer was feared captured during fighting there.

Three public libraries tried to keep Henry County and Martinsville children from being hungry this summer by giving them free meals and snacks.

That has been an important service, West Piedmont Health District Director Dr. Jody Hershey said, because statistics indicate most local children are victims of economic circumstances that could limit their access to food.

Four temporary stop signs — two on posts and two mounted near street level — have been installed on Jones Street at the intersection of Fayette Street beside the historic structure.
