Indictments issued
County grand jury indicts dozens

More than 40 people were named in 78 indictments released Monday by a Henry County grand jury.

An additional 97 indictments were sealed by a judge’s order and will remain sealed until they are served or until Sept. 22.

Fatal accidents yield charges

Two area residents were indicted Monday by a Henry County grand jury on aggravated DUI manslaughter charges related to separate accidents last year in which two people were killed.

Skyler Nicole Pavon-Malddonado, 24, of 49 Norwood Drive, Collinsville, was indicted on one count each aggravated DUI manslaughter and driving while under influence of drugs in connection with an accident on Nov. 11.

Sanville man restores his lifelong dream car

It took nearly 50 years, but Dwight Bower finally has his dream car.

Bower, who lives in the Sanville community with his wife, Rhonda Bower, is an associate professor of welding technology at Patrick Henry Community College.

In 1995, he bought his dream car, a 1964 Chevrolet Impala SS. Ten years later, he began a complete stock restoration of the car and completed the restoration in 2010.

Budget cuts' effects unsure
By PAUL COLLINS - Bulletin Staff Writer

Henry County and Martinsville officials said they don’t yet know their local governments’ shares of the $30 million per year cut to aid-to-localities for the biennium included in a budget deal that Democratic Gov. Terry McAuliffe and Republican lawmakers announced Monday.

The deal includes cuts to local government, state agencies and higher education to close Virginia’s projected $882 million budget shortfall and preserve Virginia’s AAA bond rating, according to The Associated Press and a news release from the Office of the Governor.
