A Henry County Circuit Court jury has found Lamont Anthony Woods, 23, of Figsboro, guilty of second-degree murder in the April 28, 2012, shooting death of Lamar Shonta Ward, 19.

RICHMOND (AP) — A forensic clue uncovered in the investigation of a missing University of Virginia student has led investigators to believe they have “a significant break” in the unsolved death of another young woman who had vanished from the campus five years ago, police said Monday, and perhaps an unsolved rape from years before.

Knox: EDC should do more to market lots

The Martinsville-Henry County Economic Development Corp. (EDC) could do more to market two local industrial properties, according to a city official.

Assistant City Manager Wayne Knox said the EDC is not marketing either the Rives Road Industrial Site or Clearview Business Park, both of which are in the city, as much as the Patriot Centre at Beaver Creek and Commonwealth Crossing Business Centre, both of which are larger properties in the county.

New pocket park completed uptown

The city of Martinsville has finished developing a second “pocket park” on Fayette Street uptown. The park has surfaces of brick and grass, and it has benches where people can sit and relax. Ricky Dodson memorial picnic set for Saturday

A picnic will be held Saturday at the Philpott Dam picnic grounds to remember the life of the late Ricky Eugene Dodson.

The picnic will be held from 2-4 p.m. Guests are asked to bring picnic lunches.

Dodson, 53, and his friend Vicky Harbour Purdy, also 53, went missing on Oct. 3 of last year.
