NAACP honors leaders

The historic election of a second black woman to Martinsville City Council was hailed at the Martinsville-Henry County NAACP’s 10th Annual Awards and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast on Saturday morning.
However, speakers also said there is a need for more black elected and appointed officials in city and county government and on boards of organizations. They also spoke about the importance of voting and the need for blacks to run for office.
