  • 16 apples
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 TBS cinnamon
  • 1 TBS ground cloves
  • 1 tsp. allspice
  • Applesauce, if needed
Core, peel and slice the apples. Cover and cook in a 1 1/2 gallon slow cooker for 6-8 hours on high heat, stirring every 2 hours. Cool and blend with amixer until smooth. Add enough applesauce to make 1 gallon of sauce. Add and blend the sugar and spices and cook uncovered for four hours in the slow cooker until thickened. Spoon the apple butter into hot sterilized half pint jars and seal with new, hot lids and rings. Makes about 12 jars.
