  • for cake:
  • 2 sticks butter
  • 1â�„2 cup shortening
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 6 eggs
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1â�„2 cup cocoa
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • for icing:
  • 11â�„2 sticks butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 6 oz. evaporated milk
  • 1 cup chocolate morsels
Preheat oven to 325 degrees and grease three 9-inch round cake pans. Cream butter into shortening. Add sugar and mix well. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each. Sift 2 cups flour into the sugar mixture and mix well.
Sift 1 cup flour with 1�2 cup cocoa and the baking powder. Add to butter mixture alternatively with milk. Add vanilla.
Bake one hour or until done.

for icing:
Melt butter with sugar. Add evaporated milk and bring to a boil. Boil for 3 minutes, then add morsels. Stir until slightly thick. Frost cake while warm and icing is hot; icing hardens quickly.
