Fried Apple Pies by The Pie Man
Contributed by: Freddy Wells
1/2 pound dried apples
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 cup sugar
Half stick margarine
1 cup self-rising flour
3?4 cup buttermilk
Fill a large pot a quarter full with water and bring water to a boil. Boil dried apples until soft. Once ready, drain dry.
Mix cinnamon and sugar with apples.
Cut margarine into flour. Stir in buttermilk and form into dough. Roll out balls of dough into 6-inch circles, each about 1?4 inch thick. Place two large teaspoons of dried apple mix in the center of each dough circle. Fold dough over. Mash ends together with fork. Use fork to poke holes twice.
Deep fry in cooking pan at medium-high temperature. Turn and cook the pie on the other side to reach desired color.
Remove from oil and place on paper towel to drain.
