District Court

A charge of malicious wounding lodged against Christopher Dean Davis of Collinsville on Sept. 8 was dismissed.

Christopher Lee Eames of Bassett pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon on Nov. 29 and was sentenced to 5 years in prison with 3 years suspended and ordered to pay a $200 fine and $670 in court costs.

Bill Jo Hall of Stuart pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a felon, carry a concealed weapon, possession of a firearm while possessing heroin, drive while suspended (third or subsequent offense) on Jan. 2 and was sentenced to 12 years with all but 2 years and 10 days suspended and ordered to pay a $250 fine and $2,762.50 in court costs.

Bobby Joe Mullins of Bassett pleaded guilty to elude police, drive while suspended, on Nov. 14 and fail to appear on May 21. He was sentenced to 11 years in prison with all but 9 months suspended and ordered to pay a $250 fine and $2,166 in court costs.

Brandon Eugene Tipold, no address listed, pleaded no contest to rape of a child less than 13 years old, aggravated sexual battery of a victim less than 13 years old on July 8, 2015, elude police and drive while suspended (third or subsequent offense) on June 23, 2019 and was sentenced to 56 years in prison with 35 years, 11 months, and 20 days suspended and ordered to pay $3,026.62 in court costs.

David Robert Cannaday of Martinsville was found guilty of drive while suspended (third or subsequent offense) on Oct. 9, 2019, possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute, drive while revoked or suspended, possess marijuana (second or subsequent offense), possess bupren and naloxone with intent to distribute on May 1, 2020, fail to appear on Oct. 1, 2020, fail to appear on Nov. 5, 2020, and was sentenced to 22 years, 5 months in prison with 17 years, 2 months, and 20 days suspended.

Walter Melvin Cousins Jr. of Ridgeway pleaded guilty to distribute cocaine (second offense) on May 7, 2020, and was sentenced to 10 years in prison with 5 years and 6 months suspended.

Raven Baylee Johanknecht of Patrick Springs, pleaded guilty to possession of heroin on Sept. 5, 2020, and was sentenced to three years suspended and ordered to pay $1,178 in court costs.

Jarrett Lee Titus of Martinsville pleaded guilty to distribute fentanyl on June 16, 2020 and distribute heroin on June 23, 2020, and sentenced to 10 years in prison with nine years suspended and ordered to pay $450 in restitution and $3,615 in court costs.

Matthew Douglas Turner of Ferrum pleaded guilty of distribute methamphetamine on Nov. 19, 2018, and sentenced to five years suspended and ordered to pay $100 in restitution and $1,848 in court costs.

Martinsville Circuit Court

Travis Lee Bryant pleaded guilty to possess methamphetamines with intent to distribute second offense and possession of heroin with intent to distribute first offense on Jan. 8, 2020, and was sentenced to 20 years in prison with 17 years suspended. A charge of possession of oxycodone with intent to distribute was dropped.

Charges of maliciously shoot or throw at a train or car and possession or transport a weapon by a violent felon on April 8 against Anthony Eugene Moore of Martinsville were dropped.

Patrick County Circuit Court

Amber Nicole Bowden of Ridgeway pleaded guilty to distribution of schedule I or II controlled substance on June 27, 2017, and on July 5, 2017, and conspiracy to sell controlled substances on July 5, 2017, and was sentenced to 15 years in prison with 14 years and nine months suspended and ordered to pay $180 in restitution.

Thatcher Lindwood Robertson of Ararat pleaded guilty to two charges of sexual offense with a minor by computer on Oct. 27, 2019, and was sentenced to time served and two years suspended.

Christopher James Borders of Columbia, SC pleaded guilty to two charges of possess marijuana, distribute schedule I or II controlled substance, and distribute imitation controlled substance on July 29, 2016 and was sentenced to seven years and four days with six years, 11 months and 14 days suspended.

Sonya D. Barnwell of Spencer pleaded guilty to DWI with drugs third or subsequent offense and possess schedule I or II drugs on Aug. 16, 2020, and was sentenced to three years in prison with two years and nine months suspended.

Justin Kent Hawks of Cana was found guilty of possessing burglary tools and pleaded guilty to statutory burglary and petit larceny on Sept. 19, 2017, and sentenced to eight years in prison with seven years and nine months suspended.
