The remaining indictments recently handed down by a Martinsville grand jury were unsealed and released this week, according to documents in the Martinsville Circuit Court Clerk’s Office.

On Feb. 11, a Martinsville grand jury returned 122 bills of indictment, but 60 of them were sealed by a judge’s order for up to five days “to enhance the safety of law enforcement officers who must arrest the defendants named in the indictments and in order to prevent the defendants from obtaining notice of arrest warrants prior to being arrested by law enforcement officers.”

An indictment is not an indication of guilt. It is a grand jury’s determination that enough evidence exists to hold a trial.
