Hospitalizations for COVID-19 continue to rise in the West Piedmont Health District. New data released Sunday by the Virginia Department of Health revealed five new hospitalizations in the district. Two of those each were in Henry and Patrick counties and one in Martinsville. That adult care center in Stuart that has been hit with an outbreak of COVID-19 had another problem that went unreported: a scabies outbreak. This was discovered because of one man's efforts to get treatment for his mother. Because of the spike in new cases and hospitalizations in the West Piedmont Health District, Sovah Health-Martinsville has changed its visitor policy for patients, tightening access, this following the sixth death of a Henry County resident. Meanwhile, Another 1,200-plus people have died in the U.S. in the past 24 hours. The Virginia Department of Health reports this morning reported there have been 91,782 cases and 2,218 deaths statewide -- only three more than Saturday. Some 7,955 people have been hospitalized. Henry County has had 511 cases, with 58 hospitalizations and 6 deaths. Martinsville has had 169 cases, with 25 hospitalizations and 3 deaths. Patrick County has had 115 cases including 24 hospitalizations and 3 deaths. Franklin County has had 160 cases, 8 hospitalizations and 1 death. Danville has reported 330 cases, and Pittsylvania County has had 354. Johns Hopkins University's real-time map showed 17,839,641 cases worldwide and 679,516 deaths. In the U.S. there are 4,639,005. There have been 154,619 deaths in the U.S.
