Day by day, the news of the spread of COVID-19 in Patrick County gets more concerning. The day after at least 55 cases were identified in the outbreak at Blue Ridge Therapy Connection, Patrick County Schools has said three people from its "community" have tested positive. There were 10 new cases and one new hospitalization on Friday morning in Henry County. There were no details about who, where or how. And with the school district scheduled to start hybrid classes on Aug. 11, this situation will be monitored closely. Meanwhile, with more and more people wearing and wanting options with face masks, some artists and retailers are getting involved to create and sell the masks. We have a report on that, too. The Senate adjourned until Monday without taking further action on a new stimulus bill. Expanded unemployment benefits are scheduled to expire today. There is no indication that anything will happen until Monday, even as a hurricane approaches Florida and the eastern seaboard, including Virginia's coastline. The Virginia Department of Health reports this morning reported there have been 89,888 cases and 2,174 deaths statewide. Some 7,866 people have been hospitalized. Henry County has had 477 cases, with 54 hospitalizations and 5 deaths. Martinsville has had 159 cases, with 24 hospitalizations and 3 deaths. Patrick County has had 108 cases including 18 hospitalizations and 3 deaths. Franklin County has had 151 cases, 8 hospitalizations and 1 death. Danville has reported 300 cases, and Pittsylvania County has had 316. Johns Hopkins University's real-time map showed 17,325,093 cases worldwide and 673,868 deaths. In the U.S. there are 4,495,375. There have been 152,075 deaths in the U.S.
