The summary of today's new data

The first data collected in May showed only 4 new cases and 1 new hospitalization caused by COVID-19 in the West Piedmont Health District. These numbers were updated by the Virginia Department of Health at 5 p.m. Saturday. This followed a mild spike of 45 cases in three days, which has helped push the 7-day average to 10 and the rate per 100,000 population to 7.3. Franklin County had 3 of the new cases, and Patrick County had the other one. Henry County had the only new hospitalization. Officials at the Mulberry Creek Nursing & Rehab in Martinsville, which had a long-running outbreak pending closure, had a setback last week with 2 new cases involving residents. A letter from officials to employees and the families of residents explained those new cases. The individuals have been moved to their COVID-19 isolation area. The outbreak, which VDH first added to its database on Jan. 8, had accounted for 151 cases and 27 deaths as of Friday.
