The mandatory mask policy goes into effect in Virginia today. Gov. Ralph Northam has said masks must be worn in all public facilities. Martinsville and Henry County leaders on Thursday expressed concerns with how to address those. Meanwhile, there were a few more positive tests for the coronavirus in the city and county announced Thursday evening. The Virginia Department of Health reports  this morning there are 42,553 cases and 1,358 deaths statewide. Some 4,529 people have been hospitalized. Henry County's number of positive cases increased to 99, with 9 hospitalized and 3 deaths. Martinsville has 31 cases, 6 hospitalized and 1 death. Patrick County now has 18 cases. Franklin County's total is at 35, with 4 hospitalized and 1 death. Danville now has 51 cases, and Pittsylvania County now has 39. Johns Hopkins University's real-time map showed 5,844,499 cases worldwide and 361,119 deaths. In the U.S. there are 1,722,419 cases. The Worldmeters coronavirus update -- which always trends a little higher -- shows the death count in the U.S. at 102,293 -- but had not updated that number on Friday.
