Zzzzz Education association president issues call for teachers to share classroom experiences

  • 0

Teachers need to share their experiences in the classroom in order to reframe the issue of school funding around the needs of children, the president of the state’s largest education association said Tuesday.

The public and legislators don’t understand enough of what goes on in schools, Virginia Education Association President Jim Livingston told a small group of teachers at a talk organized by the education association in Botetourt County.

When teachers share their experiences dealing with large class sizes, or of teaching students with learning disabilities, they can help make the case for increased support, he said.

“We haven’t been listening to the experts when it comes to public education,” Livingston said. “And who are the experts? You.”
