The City of Danville has been awarded a $500,000 Brownfields Assessment Grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), supporting efforts to identify redevelopment opportunities and advance revitalization projects in key areas of the city.
The grant is part of a nationwide EPA investment of $248 million in Brownfields Multipurpose, Assessment, and Cleanup Grants awarded to 190 communities. More than $19 million of that funding was awarded to communities across the Mid-Atlantic region.
Danville's grant funding will support environmental assessment activities within historic districts of Danville with a strong focus on the North Main Street Business District and the Mechanicsville Historic District.

Since its creation in 1995, EPA's Brownfields Program has provided more than $3 billion in funding to assess and clean up contaminated properties nationwide. Brownfields investments have leveraged more than $45 billion in cleanup and redevelopment activity and supported more than 228,900 jobs. Through fiscal year 2025, every dollar awarded through EPA Brownfields grants has leveraged an average of $19.47 in additional public and private investment.
