Danville Utilities was honored for its achievements throughout the past year during the 2026 American Municipal Power (AMP) Annual Conference. The utility received a Public Power Community Engagement and Service Award, and a utility employee received an AMP Rising Star Award.
The Public Power Community Engagement and Service Award recognizes public power utilities for good neighbor activities that demonstrate a commitment to community, and that improve customer service, engagement and satisfaction. Danville Utilities received this award for its HVAC/Insulation Replacement Program and Smart Thermostat Program, which used customer energy consumption and geographic information system data to identify households with the greatest energy burdens in order to connect them with targeted energy efficiency assistance.
In addition, Mauricio Rodriguez, data scientist for Danville Utilities, was named an AMP Rising Star Award winner. This award recognizes up-and-coming leaders in public power who have made significant contributions and have demonstrated dedication to the goals and principles of public power. Rodriguez has served in a variety of roles for Danville since 2013 and was named to his current position in 2025. As data scientist, he has become a key contributor across Danville’s electric, water, wastewater and natural gas utilities.
The AMP Annual Conference took place Oct. 12-14 in Columbus. The organization’s premier event featured presentations and panel discussions by industry experts and speakers from AMP partner organizations.
